Eastbourne Dance Space classes are taught by a variety of hard working, talented and energetic teachers.

Claire Tabraham

Claire was born in Surrey, and started RAD ballet at the age of three, and tap and modern soon after. She is an experienced, fully qualified dance teacher with the ISTD, having achieved DDE (Diploma in Dance Education) qualifications in both tap and modern theatre dance.

As well as dancing, she had a great interest in food science and nutrition, which led her to her achieving a BSc (Hons) in food science and enjoying a rewarding nine year career in the food industry. Throughout this time she continued studying dance, which eventually led to her career change. She studied for her DDEs at Italia Conti and Kingston Teachers’ Training College. She is experienced in teaching both children and adults and has also been performing and choreographing for many years. She has carried out private dance coaching for figure skaters and pre-audition coaching for West End theatre performers, as well as leading numerous and varied dance workshops for different groups.

Before moving to Eastbourne in 2014, she taught children’s ISTD classes at Newmarket School of Dance, and adults at Cambridge University Tap and Jazz Society (CUTAZZ), where she was also involved with choreography and show production. Prior to that she lived in Guildford, where she was a teacher and trustee at local community dance studio Woking Dance Space. Here she really enjoyed teaching adults and choreographing for and performing in shows. Her trustee role meant that she was also involved in the day to day running of the studio, including marketing, health & safety and costume making! The uniqueness, fun and inclusivity of WDS, and her enjoyment of and passion for dance prompted her to set up Eastbourne Dance Space, where she hopes to encourage others, and to pass on her enthusiasm for dance to students of all ages and abilities.

Claire Christou

Claire has been dancing since she was 2 years old, beginning with Cechetti training in South Africa where she was born, and moving onto Imperial Classical training with the ISTD when she moved to Eastbourne aged 10.

She studied ballet up to advanced level as a teenager and complemented her ballet training with an A level in contemporary dance from Sussex Downs College. She went on to study dance at degree level and graduated from Middlesex University with BA Honours in Dance. Claire based her studies on dance education and choreography and has experience of teaching children from 2 upwards and young adults with learning difficulties. Having taken a break to travel and work abroad in Hong Kong and South Africa for several years, Claire is now studying for her Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) and her Advanced 1 in the ISTD ballet syllabus, having gained her Diploma in Dance Instruction (DDI). Other dance related qualifications include StreetFit. She currently freelances for several dance schools and companies in the area, working with children from 2 upwards right to adults. She teaches mainly ballet and contemporary and has choreographed for many shows and festivals.

'Dancing is a passion which I have always had and believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy it brings! My own path to dance has not been conventional, and I hope to show people that you don't have to be a 'typical' dancer to enjoy and benefit physically and emotionally from joining dance classes!'
